Apple Cobbler - Dump Style cooked in a Camp Dutch Oven with charcoal.
Recipe:
4 Cups Granny Smith Apples peeled and sliced
1/4 Cup Lemon Juice
1 Cup Brown Sugar
1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Ground Nutmeg
1/8 tsp Salt
1 box Butter Flavored Cake Mix
1 1/2 Cups Unsalted Butter Melted
Instructions:
Coat 10 inch Dutch Oven with butter. In large bowl combine apples with Lemon Juice, Sugar, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and salt.
Toss/Mix until apples are evenly coated.
Transfer apple mixture to Dutch Oven and sprinkle cake mix evenly over the top of the apples Drizzle melted butter over cake mix mixing in carefully to get as much of the cake mix moistened as possible without disturbing the apples.
Bake for 50 to 60 minutes with 7 coals underneath and 13 coals on top, changing coals as needed to maintain heat. Usually every 30 minutes or so.
After cobbler is done allow to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving. Cobbler breading will firm up some as it cools.
Excellent served with Ice Cream or Whipped Cream.
